A Brief History of Riverviews Artspace
A group of Lynchburg residents had a vision.  Central Virginia offered an unique, authentic and creative experience,  without relying on imported mass culture; however the city lacked a seeding ground.  These residents looked to the James River, where Lynchburg began, and got to work....

As many industries moved out of downtown Lynchburg and chain stores and restaurants filled the malls, the riverfront laid in waste. Yet this very “weakness,” empty run-down buildings, is ultimately the strength.

The first thrust of Riverviews Artspace was to create building where artists could live and work.

Forward-thinking citizens with reverence for Lynchburg past, are transforming these neglected spaces into vital, unique destinations for residents and tourists.  Riverviews Artspace has been on the forefront of the downtown renaissance.

Affordable space, innovatively adapted, reduces financial risk and encourages experimentation.   These incubator units attracted artists, designers and other creative entrepreneurs.
The “Riverviews idea” and its innovative development plan have passed the ultimate reality check—Riverviews is economically viable with 95% of units occupied.  Riverviews Artspace is a physical setting where a creative milieu has emerged and flourished
