THE EMERGING ARTIST PROGRAM IS AN INITIATIVE DESIGNED TO ASSIST EMERGING VISUAL ARTISTS TO EXHIBIT THEIR WORK IN A PROFESSIONAL PUBLIC ENVIRONMENT AND GAIN EXPERIENCE IN ALL ASPECTS ASSOCIATED.

RIVERVIEWS AWARDS VISUAL ARTISTS WHO DEMONSTRATE EXCELLENCE IN THEIR ART AND A COMMITMENT TO THEIR CAREER WITH A MONTH-LONG EXHIBITION AS PART OF OUR EMERGING ARTIST SERIES.

Recipients have the opportunity to build relationships within an expansive community of artists and art professionals. The combination of exhibition and supplemental programing of “how-to” (curate, artist statements, apply for exhibits, building a CV) is intended to further the recipients’ artistic practice, while encouraging career sustainability and empowering their artistic voice.

The Emerging Artist Series serves to provide artists with an exhibition that can lead to similar opportunities and grow their confidence as an exhibiting artist. As an organization that values cultural equity, this program benefits a population of artists beyond the sphere of higher education that may not always be accessible to some artists. We thoughtfully engage a broad group of emerging artists and prioritize diversity in all areas, including artistic practice, gender, age, background, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and all levels of education.

We define “emerging” as those early in their artistic careers (regardless of age), who are gaining momentum and may be at a critical juncture in their career when this support would be the most impactful. These artists are not yet considered well-established professionally by indicators such as major gallery representation, extensive exhibition history and awards, or sustaining an income derived solely from art sales and commissions.

Individual artists can apply directly, and Riverviews will accept nominations of regional artists to be reviewed. A panel selects program finalists through a review process.
