Riverviews Artspace awarded $10,000 for its SPARKS Digital Media Program by Queen of Virginia Skill & Entertainment.

Lynchburg VA - Riverviews Artspace has been awarded a $10,000 grant for the expansion of its SPARKS Digital Media Art Lab children program by Queen of Virginia Skill & Entertainment (“QVS”) through its Charitable Giving program.

The SPARKS Digital Media Lab at Riverviews Artspace provides digital media arts and technology to one of the most underserved communities: socio economically challenged youth and young adults.

While keenly interested in the medium, the technology is not readily available or affordable at either school or home – denying teens and young adults the opportunity to obtain valuable skills enabling them to be more competitive in the employment market. SPARKS is a change agent. The lab consists of the most up to date digital media art tools used today including hardware and software to create graphic design, print, film editing and animation, photography, web design and more.

Classes and programs are collaborated in part with Lynchburg City Schools Empowerment Academy, Linkhorne Elementary and Middle School and the city's Tech Hire program.

“We are so excited about having received this contribution! With this grant by Queen of Virginia Skill & Entertainment we have the resources to expand our programs to unleash creativity and potential within children and at–risk youth, enabling them to realize their academic and professional goals, and empowering them to overcome challenges” - Kim Soerensen, Executive Director of Riverviews Artspace “This community investment has long term, positive impact, creating equity in young individuals.

“There is no doubt that Riverviews Artspace, through its SPARKS Digital Media Art Lab program, is having a positive impact on their young students. But it doesn’t stop there. Those kids may not realize it, but for some, their efforts will go a long way towards giving future generations opportunities they may not have had otherwise. We at QVS are grateful that we’re able to play a part in their overall success" - Jim Pietrangelo, Director of Charitable Giving for QVS.

Queen of Virginia Skill & Entertainment is committed to supporting causes that improve communities and quality of life for the residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Since the launch of its giving program in 2018, QVS has donated over $600,000 to charitable causes throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
